1. In one minute
Todoist and TheXinA both help you get things done, but they begin in different places. Todoist begins with a task: you capture it, give it a date, and it lands in a list you can sort and filter. TheXinA begins with a dream: you describe it, and it becomes a Mission with SMART goals and small daily actions, with a Dreamate companion walking beside you.
Neither is "better". Todoist is a well-loved, flexible task manager that works for individuals and teams. TheXinA is a smaller, more personal tool for the kind of goal that stays "someday" on a long list. Facts about Todoist were checked on its official site on October 13, 2026.
2. What Todoist is great at
Todoist describes itself as a to-do list and task manager, and it has earned its following. Going by its own site and help center, a few things stand out:
- Fast capture. You can add tasks in everyday language, and it offers AI help to capture tasks from things like emails, photos or voice.
- Clear daily views. Today, Upcoming and custom filters help you see only what matters right now. Every plan includes list and board layouts, recurring dates, sub-tasks, labels and priorities.
- Sharing and teams. Shared projects are available on every plan, and the Business plan adds team features.
- Reach. It runs on phone, tablet, smartwatch, desktop and web, and connects to tools such as Google Calendar and Slack.
If your life is a stream of tasks, deadlines and shared projects, that is a strong foundation. You can read the details on the official Todoist site.
3. What TheXinA does differently
A task list is very good at answering "what is next?" It is less helpful with a question one level up: "what am I actually trying to build, and is today's work part of it?"
TheXinA is organized around that second question. You start with a dream in your own words. It becomes a Mission with a finish line, a few SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound), and small actions you could start in under a minute. Our guide to turning dreams into goals walks through the method, and Missions, Goals & Actions shows how it looks in the app.
Your Dreamate is the other difference. You can tell it what you want in a messy sentence, and it can save it as a Thought, turn it into a Mission, and suggest goals and actions as a first draft. It is a companion, not a coach or an expert: you choose what to keep, change or delete. Around that sit a short AI morning plan, a quiet Focus Mode timer tied to one action, and a calendar.

5. When Todoist is the better fit
Todoist is likely the better choice if:
- Your work is mostly tasks, errands and deadlines, and you want a quick list you can sort and filter.
- You collaborate with a team or family and need shared projects, roles or team plans.
- You want it on many devices, including a smartwatch, or connected to tools like Slack or your calendar.
- You already have a system that works and a dream is not what is missing.
If that sounds like you, keep Todoist.
6. When TheXinA is a good fit
TheXinA is a good fit if:
- You have a dream that has been "someday" for a while, and a long task list has not moved it.
- You know where you want to go but not the first step, and would like a draft to react to.
- You like small daily actions, a gentle morning plan and a calm timer more than a dense dashboard.
- Your goals are personal, and you want a companion that stays kind on a bad day.
An honest limit: TheXinA is not a team workspace, and its native iOS and Android apps are still coming soon. Today it works on the web and installs to your home screen.
7. Can you use both?
Yes, and for many people that is the sensible answer. Keep everyday tasks and shared projects in Todoist. Keep one or two bigger dreams in TheXinA as Missions, with a few goals and a small action for today. A simple rule avoids double entry: if it has a deadline and an owner, it belongs in your task manager. If it is something you are building toward, it belongs in a Mission.
8. How to try TheXinA if you are coming from Todoist
You do not need to move anything. Try it beside Todoist for a week:
- Pick one project, not all of them. Choose the project that feels most like a dream, not a chore.
- Bring it in as a Mission. Give it a name that says what will exist and by when, and a rough deadline.
- Turn a few tasks into goals and actions. Group related tasks into about three goals, then keep one or two tasks as small actions. Or ask your Dreamate for a first draft and edit it.
- Do one action a day. Use the morning plan or a Focus Mode session, and tick it off.
- Review after seven days. Notice whether the Mission feels clearer. If it does, keep going. If not, you lose nothing.
Not sure about the method? The free Dream to Action worksheet lets you try it on paper first.
