1. Why one action at a time helps
Your dream does not compete with other dreams. It competes with messages, tabs, chores and the small pull of "I will just check one thing." A long to-do list makes this worse, because every item on it is a reason to switch.
Choosing one action and giving it a fixed block of time changes the question. You stop asking "what should I do?" and start asking "can I give this 25 minutes?" That second question is much easier to say yes to. A short, bounded block also has an end, which makes it easier to begin.
This is the same idea behind the 15-minute rule: make the start small and clear. Focus Mode is the tool that holds the timer for you.
2. What Focus Mode is in TheXinA
Focus Mode is a full-screen timer tied to one of your actions. In TheXinA, a dream becomes a Mission, the Mission has goals, and the goals have small daily actions (see Missions, Goals & Actions). Focus Mode takes it one level further: it picks one of those actions and gives it your attention.
While a session runs, the screen shows a "Focus mode" label, the action's name, the goal and Mission it belongs to, and a countdown. That is all. Seeing which goal and Mission the action serves is a gentle reminder of why you sat down.
Only one action can be in focus at a time. While a session is running, the timer buttons on other actions are hidden, which keeps the idea simple: one thing, then the next.
3. How to run a session, step by step
- Open Home. Your actions for today are listed there. Each action that is not done yet has a small timer button next to it.
- Tap the timer on the action you want. Focus Mode opens and the countdown starts straight away. The default length is 25 minutes.
- Work. You can pause and resume if life interrupts. Your session is saved to your account, so the countdown is based on its saved start time.
- Need Home for a moment? Use the Home button. The session keeps running, and a "On focus mode" bar on Home shows the action name with pause and finish buttons.
- End it your way. Finish when the work is done, or cancel if you decide not to continue.
You do not need to prepare anything extra. If you already have a Mission with a few actions, you can start a session in two taps. If you do not, the guide on turning dreams into goals shows how to create them.
4. What happens when the timer ends
The timer does not close anything behind your back. When it reaches zero, it stops and you decide what comes next.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pause / Resume | Stops the clock and starts it again from where it was |
| Continue | After the timer ends, starts another session of the same length on the same action |
| Finish | Marks the action as completed and ends the session |
| Cancel Focus | Ends the session without completing the action, so it stays on your list |
That last row matters. Not every session ends with a finished action, and that is fine. A session where you made progress but did not finish still counts as time spent on your dream, and you can come back to the action tomorrow.
5. Picking the right action and length
A session works best when the action is small enough to make real progress inside one block. A quick check before you press start:
- Could you begin right now without deciding anything else?
- Is it specific, such as "draft the intro paragraph" rather than "work on the book"?
- Does the block fit the action? If it is too big, split it into smaller actions first.
For length, 25 minutes is the default, and you can change it in your settings to anything from 5 to 120 minutes in steps of 5. On a low-energy day, try 10 or 15. On a day with space, try 45 or more. If you are not sure where to begin, your morning plan from the AI daily planner can suggest what to focus on, and you choose what to keep.
6. When it fits, when it does not, and what each plan includes
A good fit if you
Struggle to start, jump between tasks, or work best in short blocks with a clear end. It also suits anyone who likes to see an action through before opening the next one.
Not the best fit if you
Prefer to work with no clock at all, or need an app that locks other apps. Focus Mode does not block anything. It is a calm timer, and the choice to stay is yours.
Focus Mode is included in every plan. Spark (free) gives you the default background, Ignite adds customizable backgrounds, and Ultimate adds a fully customizable Focus Mode with unlimited backgrounds. See the full list on what each plan includes.
TheXinA works on the web today and installs to your home screen on iOS and Android. Native apps are coming soon.
